While travel games seem great because they're so small and portable, in all honesty they are usually terrible for those same reasons. If you take travel Trouble or travel Monopoly in the car for that 9 hour car ride, you are asking for trouble. You are guaranteed to have angry children because the pieces will fall and fly all over the place, and there's a good chance you'll never be able to find them in the car.

Travel Hungry Hippos is one of the few exceptions to the rule. With a dome set up over the play area, this toy is guaranteed to keep it's pieces in place which is exactly what you want when you are picking up travel time entertainment.

This is the one Travel version game that I'd recommend to any family. It's small enough to go in a travel bag, and you won't have to worry about losing pieces on the road.

Trivial Pursuit s a great game for kids and adults of all ages. This kids version is no exception to that statement either. It can enjoyed by anyone of any age!

The great thing about Trivial Pursuit is that it provides a fun and entertaining challenge while teaching the players little bits of information here and there. While not all the questions have significant academic value, quite a few of them really do. Since there are different categories for questions you can rest assured that the learning that occurs will cover a variety of topics that will help your child down the road.

Trivial Pursuit offers a wonderful balance of fun and excitement that families can sit down and enjoy together on a regular basis.

Guess Who is a must have for all young kids. Combine the fun of asking questions with the process of educated elimination and you end up with this classic hit game.

I remember playing for hours at a time with friends when I was younger. We'd play until we ran out of characters to be and never get bored. This game still has the power to enchant kids in this day and age with the same level of entertainment as well.

There are two negatives about Guess Who though, but both are pretty minor in the big scheme of things. First of all setup is a pain in the rear! Second, every commercial always portrays the characters talking, which tends to be misleading to a small child. I remember being disappointed when I got the game and they didn't talk and just the other day my four year old saw the commercial and asked why his game doesn't talk.

Luckily the fun of the game outweighs the fact that the cards can't actually talk and your kids will absolutely adore playing Guess Who with anyone and everyone that will!

Normally I like to stick to the classic versions of games like Clue or Monopoly, but in this particular case, I'm willing to make an exception.

I absolutely adore my Disney Monopoly collection and so does the rest of my family. It brings out the young child in anyone from age 15 to 115. Every part of the game features your favorite Disney characters and images from the money, to the game pieces, to the pieces of real estate that you buy. They even replaced the houses and hotels with cottages and castles!

If your family is a fan of the Original Monopoly then they'll definitely enjoy this version as well. Have a little fun and reminisce about your favorite classic Disney characters as well.

For the families with younger elementary school kids, Monopoly Junior offers a great alternative to regular Monopoly. Usually I don't lend myself towards Junior editions, but this one is really great.

The properties are a lot more child oriented. The venue for the game is Boardwalk, and you and your children are on a mission to buy as many Boardwalk attractions as you can. Mini golf? Go Karts? Which will you grab first?

The money denominations are a lot smaller as well so that you kids can count their money on their own with more ease than they would in a regular Monopoly game.

Teach your kids about commerce and simple math with a fun and exciting game of Monopoly Junior.

For those of us with kids who are young for the original Uno card game, Uno Moo is an excellent alternative. I don't think I've found a kid yet that doesn't get excited when they see it on TV.

These easy to handle farm animals give your kids a lesson in matching colors and images that will help them learn how to form connections between similar items for the rest of their lives.

Not only are the pieces great for game play, but they are great for playing in general. They remind me a little of the little egg shaped people I used to have when I was a kid that can no longer be found. They are easy to grasp, even for young toddlers, and you can use them on their own to teach about colors and animal sounds.

Plus when you're all done, tuck it all away into the amazingly cute barnyard carrying case! You have to love the toys that come with their own cute storage devices.

What can I say? I'm a sucker for the classics. I know there are dozens of versions of Monopoly out there, but none of them come close to the original in my eyes... except perhaps for the Disney version.

This is a game that every household should have, and not just the ones with kids! It's great to play with your children, with your peers, or with both. No one is immune to the fun that comes from this game.

The look of satisfaction on your child's face when you have to pay them rent will be well worth the $10 you'll spend on the game. Give them the gift of entrepreneurship and a regular lesson in how to count money with a regular Monopoly night in your household.

Clue is by far one of the best family night games that you possibly choose. It does tend to be similar to Monopoly in that the more people who play, the better it is, which can be a pitfall in small families. The simple solution is just to have a few extended family members over, or make it family date night with another small family!

Kids and adults both enjoy playing Clue and figuring out whodunnit!

It's a great way to encourage your kid(s) to use logic and the process of elimination to figure out the who, what and where of this murder mystery.

If your youngest isn't quite ready to play Clue on their own, have them help you play instead. You can take care of the note taking and they can take care of helping you move your piece.

Don't forget Clue at your next family game night!

Hungry Hungry Hippos, Hungry Hungry Hippos.... who remembers the old commercials with them dancing around singing that and doing the cha cha? A classic commercial for a classic game.

We got this game last year for Christmas for our son who was three years old at the time and he absolutely loves it to this day. It's been able to stand up to his abuse which is a great plus to us.

He really enjoys playing it because it's noisy, fun and he gets to push the little black lever to open his hippos mouth as hard as he can. We enjoy it because afterward it provides a good lesson in counting and sportsmanship.

I definitely recommend this classic for any child!

The Kiddopotamus Snuzzler Complete Head and Body Support is another one of those must have items for every parent. Nothing is worse than watching your head and neck sit awkwardly and unsupported in their car seat.

It killed me when that would happen and that's why I made the investment in a Snuzzler... if only there were something like it to use for them when they're toddlers! It still makes me uncomfortable when he falls asleep in the car and his head tips to the side or front!

The Snuzzler will support your child's head and body so you don't have to worry about your little one being uncomfortable or their head sitting in a position that will have your eyes on them more so than on the road.
